English major musing #ridiculously large number:

Dessert (n): something nummy.  Pronounced "dez-ERT".
Desert: (n): a dry place.  Pronounced "DEZ-ert".
Desert (v): to leave someone on their own.  Pronounced "dez-ERT".

Thus, if you say to someone, "I won't desert you", you could be not ditching them.  Or you could not be giving them cake.
